Civity was appointed by Cairns Regional Council as a specialist advisor to fill the role of General Manager Planning and Environment in an interim capacity. This engagement was completed by Civity Director Martin Garred.
A key focus of this engagement was to develop a business plan to ensure the Development, Planning and Property branch was being effectively managed and that the regions ongoing growth pressures were being managed through contemporary planning policy responses.
The role involved the management of the Planning and Environment Department, with an annual operating budget of over $20 million and over 110 staff.
Key initiatives delivered through this engagement included gaining support for Cairns Regional Council to advocate for the Review of the Far North Queensland Regional Plan and securing Council commitment of a growth management plan to guide the sustainable growth of cairns until 2050.
